The only thing that’s certain about the future is that nothing is certain. People with disabilities and those who care about their civil rights struggles have seen a dynamic sea change in everything from public benefits to public awareness of key issues in the disabilities space.
This year’s UCP Annual Conference will focus on the transition to a new approach for UCP, its allies and partners. The conference coincides the unveiling of two new national initiatives for UCP: 1) targeted Public Education and Outreach campaigns around early childhood development, services and supports for youth, the transition to adulthood and vital family supports; and 2) a re-launch of UCP’s Life Without Limits Initiative, including a dynamic new language study and the birth of Life Labs, UCP’s research and development effort around adaptive technology.
A new “master class” track will allow emerging leaders to build greater skills in fundraising, marketing/communications, and social entrepreneurship/business development. Through the generosity of 501(c) Agencies Trust, UCP has created an Emerging Leaders Academy to help expand and develop the skills of emerging UCP leaders and make it easier for UCP affiliate's administrative and program staff members to attend the conference. Selected participants will receive a discounted registration rate and will be able to apply for financial assistance for travel costs. More information about this program, including application information, can be found here: www.ucp.org/2012emergingleaders.
Nominations are currently being accepted for 2012 UCP Awards for Excellence. More information about the awards and nomination forms ca be found here: www.ucp.org/2012awardsforexcellence.
While UCP doesn’t have a GPS to the future, this conference will provide interactive sessions to equip participants with the tools to navigate uncertain waters.
