The Health Privacy Project has published a consumer guide entitled "Health Privacy: Know Your Rights". The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act's (HIPAA) privacy rule, which took effect on April 14, 2003, is the first major federal law to protect the privacy of individuals' medical records.
