Access AmeriCorps
Follow-up: Section IV Existing Facilities
The standards that are found here are taken from the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG). The ADAAG is based on studies of people with disabilities. These standards provide the greatest access to the greatest number of people.
In considering existing buildings or renovation of existing buildings, there are four priorities for barrier removal: first, to get into the building; second, to get around the building and to access goods and services; third, to use restrooms and lavatories; and, four, to use other services in the building, such as drinking fountains and telephones.
Compliance with the standards outlined herein does not guarantee compliance with federal, state and local law.
- Follow-up Priority 1: Access to Services, Accessible Entrance
- Follow-up Priority 2: Access to Goods and Services
- Follow-up Priority 3: Usability of Rest Rooms
- Follow-up Priority 4: Additional Access
