Macy urged 2,300 party-goers to support United Cerebral Palsy of the Mid-South.

UCP of the Mid-South invited the Oscar-nominated actor to the show premiere to help promote the partnership between MAHBA and UCP. Mr. Macy’s attendance generated strong local media coverage and helped drive more than 5,000 visitors to the show during the opening weekend.

Selecting UCP of the Mid-South as its charity of choice, MAHBA donated $1 for every ticket sold to the affiliate. Almost 30,000 people attended the home show over two weeks.

UCP competed against a handful of other area non-profits to be the 2004 Vesta Home Show charity, and was selected by the MAHBA for the third time in five years.

"The Memphis Area Home Builders Association is a leader in the Memphis community," said Chris Decent, Vice-President for Development at UCP of the Mid-South. "We were honored to be chosen this year and are grateful for the money this event brought to our organization. We look forward to partnering with MAHBA again in the future."

Visitors of the show explored five custom homes in Devonshire Gardens in Germantown, a suburb of Memphis, from Oct. 2 through 17. Named after the Roman goddess of hearth and home, the Vesta Home Show featured the newest products, materials and designs by some of the area’s leading home construction experts, interior designers, landscapers, decorators and a variety of other contributors to home furnishing and safety.

UCP of the Mid-South provides quality programs and services to children and adults with disabilities in the Memphis and Mid-South area. The organization’s most successful service is Memphis Works, a vocational training and job placement program for adults with physical and cognitive disabilities and for adults without disabilities.

UCP places young, skilled workers with regional home builders through the Memphis Works Carpentry Skills class. Through hands-on training in basic construction, the program prepares students for a wide range of jobs.
