MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Inspire, a company known for building online communities for nonprofit health associations, today announced that it will partner with United Cerebral Palsy of New York City (UCP/NYC) and United Cerebral Palsy National (UCP) in Washington, DC, to develop and manage an online community for parents of children with cerebral palsy and other development disabilities.

The online community will be part of an authoritative early intervention resource site to be launched later this year. It will be the 30th health social networking site built by Inspire, which was founded in 2005.

Edward R. Matthews, CEO of UCP/NYC, said: "We are very excited to be partnering with Inspire on this project. It will ensure that parents here in America and all over the world will be empowered with information that will change their lives."

Since its founding in 1946 by parents of children with cerebral palsy – many of whom also founded UCP National in 1949 - UCP/NYC has been at the national forefront in developing innovative programs and services to meet the diverse needs of people with disabilities and their families. Today, UCP/NYC is the leading nonprofit agency in New York City providing services, assistive technology, and advocacy to people of all ages with cerebral palsy and related disabilities, benefiting over 13,000 individuals and their families annually.

UCP is the leading source of information on cerebral palsy-which affects more than 760,000 individuals in the US. The National organization is one of the nation's leading organizations-- serving and advocating for the more than 54 million Americans with disabilities. Today, more than 65 percent of the 176,000 children and adults served by UCP affiliates have disabilities other than cerebral palsy.

Brian Loew, the Inspire CEO, said, “We are honored to work with UCP in providing a safe, secure online environment where the parents of children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities will be able to share information, advice and support.”

Inspire has also recently signed partnership agreements with the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, Encephalitis Global, Oley Foundation, Neurofibromatosis, Inc., and the United Leukodystrophy Foundation.

Inspire has built and currently moderates communities for some 25 distinguished nonprofit health organizations--with many more about to launch. Inspire also recently launched an online health and fitness community in partnership with Discovery Health, a division of Discovery Communications.

Inspire communities are ordinarily built at no cost to health non-profits. They allow organizations to expand and become better acquainted with their constituencies in order to provide information and services.

Inspire-built communities include those of the: ALS Association, Arthritis Foundation, Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, Association of Gastrointestinal Motility Disorders, Inc., Cancer Consultants, Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, Cardiac Arrhythmias Research and Education Foundation, National Cervical Cancer/HPV Coalition, Children's Inn at the National Institutes of Health, Discovery Health National Body Challenge, Lung Cancer Alliance, National Ovarian Cancer Alliance, National Organization of Rare Diseases (NORD), National Osteoporosis Foundation, Nephcure Foundation, Preemie Magazine, Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association, VHL Family Alliance, US News and World Report, Wilson's Disease Association, International, Women and Cancer and WomenHeart.

Inspire, known until recently as ClinicaHealth, is a privately-held company based in McLean, Virginia.
