United Cerebral Palsy Celebrates Stand-Up Star Josh Blue (08/10/2006)
Washington, DC, August 10, 2006 – United Cerebral Palsy, one of the nation’s largest health charities, congratulated comedian Josh Blue today on winning Last Comic Standing, a reality television series on NBC. Blue, who has cerebral palsy, was selected by millions viewers as the best comic in America on August 9.
“Not only is Josh Blue America’s funniest comedian, he’s breaking down barriers for people with disabilities,” said Stephen Bennett, President and CEO of United Cerebral Palsy. “As a star comedian and a Paralympic athlete, he has shown millions of Americans that people with disabilities can live without limits. We are delighted for Josh and his family, and congratulate him on his success.”
Earlier in the summer, United Cerebral Palsy created a fan Web site for Blue called JoshBlueFans.com, which now receives thousands of unique visitors every day including fans with and without disabilities. The Web site highlights Blue’s stunning success, creates a community for his followers, and raises awareness about cerebral palsy and other disabilities.
One fan recently wrote, “I've always hated having CP due to the cruel people that live in this world. But after seeing what you are able to do and hearing how you don't let your CP bring you down, [it] has made me rethink [my feelings] about having CP. I've realized that if I just ignore the stares and shoot for my dreams, then I can do anything!”
