Families and Advocates Partner for Education
All children are entitled to a free and appropriate education, regardless of their disability. UCP has been a leader in ensuring that federal policy firmly upholds that right. To that end, the UCP Policy Department works to ensure that the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) meets the needs of students and parents. The Grants and Contracts Department works to ensure that families, advocates and others have effective and timely information about effective strategies for implementation.
UCP is a partner with Families and Advocates Partner for Education (FAPE), a project of the PACER Center. FAPE is a federally funded project to provide education and outreach to families regarding IDEA and the 1997 amendments to the law. UCP is working with the PACER Center to identify best practices and IDEA success stories and disseminating information developed and published by the FAPE project.
