UCP Resource Guide
For more than 55 years, UCP has been committed to change and progress for persons with disabilities. Our knowledge of disability issues has been accruing for more than half a century. Here is a quick look at the basics to get you started.

- Parenting a Child with a Disability: An infant's or young child's diagnosis with a disability changes a family's life forever. The ability of a family to meet these challenges is determined largely by available knowledge and support from community-based organizations like UCP and especially from friends and family members. Other UCP-suggested reading includes Each of Us Remember... and After the Diagnosis: An Intro for Parents.
- Find Your Local UCP: For more information on UCP services offered in your community, please contact your local UCP affiliate. Services may include therapy, assistive technology training, early intervention programs, individual and family support, social and recreation programs, community living, state and local referrals, employment assistance, and advocacy. If there is no UCP affiliate in your area, please contact the UCP National Office at 1-800-872-5827 for resource information.
- UCP Research Foundation: The UCP Research & Educational Foundation is the principal non-government agency in the USA sponsoring research directly related to the prevention of cerebral palsy and to improvement in the quality of life of persons with cerebral palsy and related developmental disorders. Two comprehensive research status reports are available for your use: The Prevention of Cerebral Palsy and Diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy.
- Assistive Technology: What You Need to Know: Assistive technology often plays a vital role in the lives of people with disabilities. According to the federal Assistive Technology Act, assistive technology is any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
- Funding: You may often ask yourself, "How am I going to pay for this?" The following documents may help:
- Advocacy and Public Policy: The UCP public policy goal is to advocate for appropriate laws and regulations for the rights of people with disabilities and for disability funding programs.
