Safeway Foundation Makes $3,000 Grant to United Cerebral Palsy

United Cerebral Palsy of Oregon & SW Washington will receive a $3,000 grant from the Safeway Foundation. Grant funds will assist UCP’s vital Family Support Program that acts as a resource, outreach and advocate for children and families impacted by developmental disabilities.

The check will be presented at a ceremony scheduled for August 6, 2008 at 11am at Safeway’s 122nd and Division store in Portland, Dan Floyd, Safeway Foundation Director of Public Affairs indicated that “Voluntary Safeway employee donations are the source for the Foundation’s ability to give generously to organizations like UCP. We are honored to be able to present this grant on behalf of the more than 12,000 employees in Oregon and SW Washington.”

United Cerebral Palsy of Oregon & SW Washington provides crucial support services to adults, children and families impacted by Cerebral Palsy and other developmental disabilities. Services include in-home care, employment acquisition services, community integration, family connectedness gatherings, respite opportunities, and life management services. Serving more than 100 adults and 750 families across Oregon & SW Washington, UCP is the pioneer agency for the creation of personalized care management that puts the needs and desires of the person as the guiding force for support. We no longer manage group homes or sheltered workshops as we seek to integrate people with disabilities into their communities and to live independent lives.

“Community support has been essential” said UCP Executive Director, Bud Thoune. “Safeway in particular has been a long time faithful donor to our programs. We appreciate all they do for us. This latest contribution is just one of many generous activities they have done on our behalf.” Founded in 1955, United Cerebral Palsy of Oregon & SW Washington is the oldest and one of the most respected charities working with the disabled community in Oregon and SW Washington. Nearly ninety-percent of all funds go directly to the people we support. One-hundred percent of all raised funds stay in our local communities.

The Safeway Foundation supports hunger relief, education, special needs, and health and human services in the communities in which Safeway’s employees work and live. In April and August 2007, the Safeway Foundation contributed more than $1.5 million to developmental disability charities in Oregon and SW Washington through grants, eScrip and other fundraising activities.
