Talking Points - What are Family Support Services?
Family support services can be many things. In general, they are supports and services provided to families that include a family member with a disability.
Some of the most frequently used supports are:
- respite care
- aide or sitter services
- recreational supports
They compliment rather than duplicate any service currently available to the family.
They are non-categorical and are not limited to only certain disabilities, but are available to all families with a child with a severe disability.
