5K Grant Awarded to Support Assistive Technology Services

United Cerebral Palsy of San Joaquin, Calaveras & Amador Counties received a $5,000 grant award from AT&T Foundation from their 2007 AT&T Excelerator competitive technology grants program.

The grant seeks to fund projects that build technology infrastructure of non profits, enabling them to increase their organizational effectiveness and/or service delivery capability. The funds will be used to support assistive technology services for the agency’s Children and Family Services Department, a crucial early intervention program that provides assessments and therapeutic activities to children 0-12 years of age. A state of the art computer/notebook will be purchased along with assistive and augmented software and hardware devices and used in the child’s natural environment including their home, school, day care and/or at the UCP/SaveMart Sensory Integration Clinic. The computer will also be available for assistive technology and assessment needs for the adult consumers participating in UCP programs.

"This is an invaluable tool and technological advancement for us, the children, adults and families we serve. Being able to go to the consumers and provide immediate assessment on site and then aid them in accessing educational/therapeutic activities via a computer that is adapted to meet their specialized needs is phenomenal," stated Suzan Allen, OTR/L, ATP, Program Manager of Technology Resource and Activity Center of Stockton (TRACS). "We deeply appreciate this generous gift, knowing the impact it will have on the special and growing population of individuals we serve."
