Michigan Tickets to Work
What is Ticket to Work?
Every eligible Social Security beneficiary receives a “Ticket to Work” (they look like a certificate. If beneficiaries want to go to work using their ticket, they can contact and "assign" their Ticket to a local entity called an "Employment Network" (EN). The EN assigned a Ticket will help the Ticket holder prepare for and obtain employment.
Who is eligible to receive a Ticket through this program?
Social Security determines which SSI and SSDI beneficiaries are eligible to receive Tickets. Generally, eligible beneficiaries:
- Are 18 or older and have not reached age 65
- Are a SSDI beneficiary and are receiving monthly cash benefits, or
- Are an SSI recipient and are receiving monthly cash benefits
Do I have to use my Ticket?
When you get a Ticket, you are free to choose whether or not to use the Ticket as well as when to use the Ticket. If you decide to "assign" it (use it), you can assign it to a participating Employment Network in your local area or to Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS).
How will Ticket-holders know how to contact Employments Networks?
When Tickets are mailed, a toll free phone number (866-YOURTICKET) will be mentioned in the packet of materials from Social Security. Ticket-holders can call this number to find out who the Employment Networks are in their area.
