United Cerebral Palsy of Metropolitan Detroit received grant funding from CVS Caremark for the QuickRamps for Kids program
August 12, 2008 (Southfield)- United Cerebral Palsy of Metropolitan Detroit (UCP/Detroit) is proud to announce that it has received a $3,000 grant from CVS Caremark Community Grant program.
UCP/Detroit will use the grant to fund the QuickRamps for Kids program. This program provides portable wheelchair ramps to families of children who experience cerebral palsy and other paralysis-causing conditions. QuickRamps are a fast, inexpensive alternative to permanent ramps. Best of all, they give the child immediate access to his or her community!
“Purchasing a ramp can be a major expense for a family, but through the QuickRamp project we are able to assist families with a simple and inexpensive answer to helping their child get out of the house,” says Leslynn Angel, President and CEO of United Cerebral Palsy of Metropolitan Detroit.
The program has received grant money from the Community Foundation of Southeastern Michigan and the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation (CDRF) and was able to provide 56 families with ramps that allow their children easy access in and out of the home. The response to the program (that had very little advertisement) was an overwhelming success and now has a waiting list of over 55 families and is continuing to grow. There is a simple application process that allows the agency to determine the need of the child and if they meet the qualifications of the grant.
