Family and Friends of David Hinkle Donate to UCP for 5th Year
In July, for the 5th year in a row, Hinkle family and friends hit the fairway for the annual David Hinkle Memorial Golf Tournament and donated the proceeds to UCP of Northwest Missouri. The 2008 event raised over $5,000, making the total proceeds for the last five years over $28,000.
A raffle was part of the day’s events. The raffle winner donated the prize, a 32-inch flat screen TV to UCP. As a result, adults with disabilities now use the TV for exercise and relaxation in conjunction with the new self-advocacy portion of UCP’s Adult Program. Some of the event proceeds have also purchased a Nintendo Wii, allowing the TV to be used for exercise through interactive video games that require movement. The Wii is a huge hit!
The rest of the 2008 proceeds, along with the 2007 proceeds, will make it possible for UCP to buy an additional accessible van for the Adult Program. Adult participants are involved in the community every day. They volunteer for several different community programs and participate in community recreational and other activities and events. An additional van is needed to allow UCP adults to continue their strong community focus that allows them to stay physically active, learn new skills, and develop meaningful relationships
Last year, proceeds from the Hinkle Golf Tournament purchased a long-anticipated glider swing called the Whisperglide. The unique glider swing makes it possible for people in wheelchairs to experience the joy of swinging. The swing is the centerpiece of a beautiful outdoor patio area which is enjoyed daily by over 50 participants in UCP’s Adult Program. The annual event has made many dreams come true over the years for UCP’s Adult Program through the purchase of a much needed wheelchair accessible mini van and new chairs for Adult Program Dining Room.
The memorial golf tournament is organized each year by David’s wife, Stena, their children and other family and friends.
Thank you, Hinkle family and supporters.
