Project SUCCESS Service Learning Program

Project SUCCESS is an all-inclusive community service program for youth interested in volunteering and helping their community. The goal of the project is to help youth, with and without disabilities, become more aware of the needs in their community and assist them in meeting those needs. Additionally, we hope to increase positive attitudes toward persons with disabilities. The program encourages young people to adapt to a variety of differences as they work together to complete various service projects, such as beach clean-ups, visiting nursing homes, graffiti paint-outs, canned food drives for the homeless, etc. By using the unique skills that each student possesses to overcome social and personal limitations, the youth in Project SUCCESS are able to create an environment where diversity and individualism are celebrated.

How Does It Work?
Project SUCCESS meets on a weekly basis at the following sites: Kroc Middle School, Lincoln Middle School, Jean Farb Middle School, Serra High School, La Jolla High School and Torrey Pines High School. The project also meets on a bi-monthly basis at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center and the National City Boys and Girls Club. At these meetings youth are engaged in a service-learning curriculum that addresses diversity, communication, and leadership skills.

Our team approach helps participants learn to adapt to a variety of differences as they work together, as equals, to research, plan and execute local community service projects.

This unique experience offers young people of all abilities the opportunity to become active and empowered members of their community, while helping them to cultivate lasting friendships with their peers.

Who Is Eligible?
Project SUCCESS is open to elementary, middle and high school-aged students (ages 10-21) who are interested in planning and organizing community service projects.
