Assistive Technology (Springfield/Decatur)
Assistive Technology and Computer Loan, also integrated into other UCP services, serves children and adult by making home more accessible and promoting full inclusion in family and community life.
A two-month loan of equipment and software gives families an opportunity to work and play together in the most natural environment. Staff is available by phone for support and technical assistance during the home loan period.
UCP is also available with assistive technology and computer loan in your child’s classroom. UCP staff will collaborate with the educator in identifying and meeting the needs of the child within the educational environment. Staff is available by phone for support and technical assistance during the school loan period, too.
- Computer labs located in Springfield and Decatur are available for assessments and training. Computers, adapted devices, and education and employment software are used in many UCP programs including camp, developmental training, employment skills training, and youth development.
- UCP loans technology and software to school districts for use in the classroom. The loaned equipment make it possible for a child with a disability to complete assignments and interact with other students in regular classrooms.
- The computer loan program makes it possible for families of young children with disabilities to borrow computers, peripherals, and software for use in the home. The child and family have access to the computer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to develop learning and communication skills and to enhance family interaction.
As technology changes, so will the library of available assistive technology. However, this service allows families and school districts the opportunity to try equipment before purchase, UCP has a library of reference materials and magazines for parents to review to facilitate purchasing equipment for long term use.
