Peace Pals Child Care
The Peace Pals Child Care Program is for children with emotional and behavioral needs, developmental delays or disabilities. This early intervention program offers child care and teaching in a group setting of up to 10 children ages 3 to 5 years.
The mission of the Peace Pals Child Care Program is to prepare each child to the best of his or her ability to become an integral, functional member of his or her family and community.
Peace Pals curriculum includes activities to enhance the growth and development of the total child. The staff works to foster social and emotional behaviors, communication, self-care, motor and cognitive skills as well as independence through planned activities. The Creative Curriculum for Preschoolers and the Peacemaking Skills for Little Kids, PreK-K are the curricula. Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) intervention is used for modifying behaviors.
Speech, occupational and physical therapists are available on site to the preschool staff. A consulting psychologist works with staff regularly and spends time in the classroom. Adaptive technology is included in the curriculum. The children have access to a wide variety of adaptive equipment including switches, gross and fine motor material, and augmentative communication devices chosen for the individual child.
A social worker is available to consult with staff and families of children in this program. The team and parent(s) develop an individual plan for each child.
Children are enrolled in Peace Pals for up to five days a week. Three hours each day is available for developmental therapy, depending on the child's plan. The available hours are from 7:30 am-5:30 pm. The head teacher also meets with the family on a regular basis.
Teachers work with children and parents on an individual basis offering developmental therapy and parent education. The program serves preschool children and their families.
