Adult Day Services
Day Habilitation
United Cerebral Palsy of Central Maryland (UCP-CM) provides services to more than 170 individuals annually through its Day Habilition programs located throughout its five Personal Development Centers across the state in Arbutus, Essex, Frederick, Hagerstown, and Cumberland. Each building has been modified to UCP-CM’s specifictions to ensure handicapped accesssibility and to provide the appropriate space needed to meet the needs of the individuals. The Day Habilitation programs are open Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm.
The Day Habilitation program includes sensory stimulation rooms, mat areas, computer labs, and various activity areas. The program focuses on providing meaningful day activities and assisting individuals to acquire and strengthen pre-vocational skills. Working on managing money, reading, math comprehension, and brushing up on general social skills are typical program activities. Each individual works with a team to establish an Individual Plan, which is tailored to the needs and desires of the person.
UCP-CM has partnered with local community colleges throughout Maryland in order to offer Day Habilitation program attendees access to a number of classes on site in UCP-CM’s centers. Courses have been modified for individuals with disabilities and are taught by certified teachers employed by the local community colleges. Classes change each semester depending on the requests of the individuals and their families, but typically include: Adult Basic Education, General Math, Reading, Music, Art, Computers, Stress Management, and Physical Education.
Access to ancillary services is also available to individuals enrolled in UCP-CM’s Day Habilitation program upon referral including individual, group and family counseling, nutritional evaluations, assistive technology and augmentative communication evaluations, physical, occupational and speech therapy. Para-Transit (wheelchair lift equipped) transportation is provided to individuals enrolled in UCP-CM’s Day Habilitation programs to and from the center each by UCP-CM.
UCP-CM’s Day Habilitation programs are inspected and licensed by Maryland’s Office of Health Care Quality (OHCQ). Additional announced and unannounced visits are conducted by representatives of the DDA.
