Elks Home Services
The Elks Home Service Nurse Program is provided through a special community partnership with the Pennsylvania Elks Home Service Program.
The goal of this program is to alleviate a portion of the daily stress that many families experience when dealing with a family member with a disability. The Elks Home Service Program provides specialists, a majority of whom are registered nurses, who visit with consumers in their homes.
The main function of the Elks Nurse is to provide information, support and referral for people with disabilities and their families. Some of the assistance provided by the nurse includes the following:
- Family Advice: Helping and instructing the family on home-care issues such as feeding, proper lifting and carrying of individual, bathing positions and procedures and beneficial sleeping positions.
- Medical Liaison: Providing consultation regarding medical issues and treatment.
- Counseling and Support: Providing information to families regarding long and short term care, home recreational activities, welfare and medical benefits available, insurance, employment procedures, parental needs and attitudes, Social Security, assistance in obtaining adaptive furniture, and interpreting clinical findings.
- Locating Resources: Working with other local agencies, organizations or programs that may provide services that will benefit our consumers.
- Advocate: Act as an advocate for our consumers to ensure their legal and human rights.
