UCP Meets BBB Charitable Giving Standards

Washington, D.C., February 28, 2002 — UCP is pleased to receive notice that it meets all 23 Charitable Better Business Bureau (CBBB) Standards for Charitable Solicitations. The standards cover fundraising practices, use of funds and solicitations, and information materials among other areas and serve as the basis for the BBB’s charity report. The UCP report is available on the BBB Wise Giving Alliance Web site.

UCP is one of the nation’s most efficient charities, with a system wide average of 85% of all revenues going to programs and services. UCP is comprised of more than 100 affiliates nationwide who offer a broad array of programs and services for people with disabilities, such as employment services, early intervention programs, assistive technology training, individual and family support, social and recreation programs, community living, state and local referrals, employment assistance, and advocacy. 65% of the consumers served by UCP affiliates have disabilities other than cerebral palsy.

Car Donations Welcomed!

UCPRI has partnered with Ocean State Auto Auction. Their program "Vehicles for Miracles" started in 1999, will come to the location of the vehicle to be donated, and remove it. Since you are donating to a charity, the IRS, will now allow a $500 deduction minimum for your support. UCPRI will receive proceeds from the auctioned income of your vehicle.

A WIN/WIN arrangement!

UCP Rhode Island also offers several funds that you may choose to support:

  • New Life Freedom in living!Fund for Accessible Living
Providing grants to individuals and families for adaptive devices and structural modifications. UCPRI has recently been honored with a HUD grant to build a new fully accessible housing project. Our intention is to use state of the art accessible features and design within a garden apartment style setting. Even though the grant is very much appreciated, to bring full accessibility to the project we have the need for gap funding that HUD can not provide. We need your help in this area!
Adaptive design has come a long way:
    • High sinks and counter tops are now made adjustable for people of all heights!
    • Cabinets and refrigerator doors have knobs that may be reached from a wheelchair.
    • Front doors and windows can be opened, closed or locked from the press of a button - providing security and independence!
Please contact Vincent Patrone for more information, 401-728-1800 ex 114.
  • Fund for Children's Futures
Supporting programs and equipment that promote the cognitive and social growth of children with disabilities. We currently have a rapidly growing children's program which offers a number of services involving a wide range of challenges. Please contact Molly Mazer for more information, 401-728-1800 ex 107.
  • Fund for Adaptive Arts
Supporting community arts education, studio programs for adaptive artists and the Gallery for the Adaptive Arts. Our arts program was recently recognized, by UCP National (1 in more than 100 affiliates), as a model in serving people by providing a special freedom through creativity in the arts. We promote the work of the Adaptive Artists through a gallery in Pawtucket, various art shows throughout the state and at a virtual gallery which you can visit HERE!. Please contact Pat Macko for more information, 401-728-1800 ex 116.
  • Fund for Inclusive Community
Promoting the social, economic and political citizenship of persons with disabilities.
