Toy Adapting Workshop
-
December 05, 2009 9:00 AM
UCP’s T.A.S.C. (Technology Assistance for Special Consumers) program will host a Free Toy Adapting Workshop on Saturday, Dec. 5, 9 a.m.-noon, at the UCP Technology and Training Center.Learn how to adapt toys for children with special needs. All adapting supplies will be available, as well as toys on which to practice.
Participants are welcome to bring toys to adapt.
Toys that work well include:- Toys with a push switch in the hand/foot. If you can feel the wire from the switch, then usually these toys can be easily adapted!
- Bubble Blowers (not the kind that requires pushing a trigger, but the kind that you switch on and makes lots of bubbles!).
- Light Spinners
- Enabling Devices has lots of adapted toys (if they can adapt them, we probably can too).
- Electrical toys—we NEVER adapt these toys because it’s too dangerous. There is a device that allows a switch to work with any electrical device.
- Remote control cars
- CD Players—they reset if using a simple battery interrupter, but some people have enough skills to do this.
The UCP Technology and Traning Center is located at 1856 Keats Drive NW, Huntsville, AL 35810.
Call T.A.S.C. at (256) 859-8300 or e-mail us tasc@ucphuntsville.org for additional information or to ask if we’ve adapted a specific toy.
