History

United Cerebral Palsy of Huntsville and Tennessee Valley (UCP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization operating a regional center in Huntsville for individuals in the North Alabama area with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. Organized locally in 1963 to meet the childcare needs of parents of physically disabled children, UCP has grown into a leading therapeutic and educational center, providing a range of services to children and adults with disabilities and their families.

UCP’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by providing quality direct services, community education, parent and professional training, and advocacy.

Each year UCP directly serves approximately 600 children and adults from a five-county region in its therapeutic and educational programs, with another 2,000 children benefiting from the agency’s quality childcare enhancement training program.

In 1997, the Alabama Early Intervention and Preschool Conference awarded UCP of Huntsville with the “Program of the Year” award for excellence in the provision of services and the response to the needs of children with disabilities and their families.
