LITC continues to help families with new grant
WICHITA, Kan. – Low-income families will be able to access expert tax representation, through an IRS grant renewed for 2008 to the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of Kansas Inc.
The Low Income Taxpayer Clinic program serves individuals with low income, specifically those who receive an IRS notice, such as back taxes or garnishments. Taxpayer Advocate Service, an independent unit within the IRS, sponsors the LITC. William Mickel, CPRF LITC program manager, who is a tax attorney, represents the LITC clients in federal, state and tax courts.
“Our partnership with the IRS as a community organization has been outstanding,” said Robert Hull, CPRF Research Division vice president. The LITC served 66 people in 2007 and 48 in 2006.
LITC works closely with Marian Adams, local taxpayer advocate with Taxpayer Advocate Service, who often refers clients to the LITC and in turn the clinic refers other clients to Adams.
“We’re happy we can continue helping the people of Wichita achieve economic self-sufficiency by providing the services of an experienced tax attorney free of charge,” said Hull.
