About UCP

UCP is a vital group of individuals and nationwide organizations working at the federal, state and local levels to provide services and opportunities for people with disabilities.

United Cerebral Palsy was orginally formed in 1978 to provide advocacy services to individuals throughout the State of Maryland. In 1992, the direct services division of the organization spun-off to become United Cerebral Palsy of Southern Maryland. All of our services are "community based", stemming from our basic belief that individuals with disabilities have the right to be productive members of society. We do not offer "center" based services, which means that all of our services take place at individualized locations in the community.

With remarkable support from local communities, individual volunteers, businesses and staff, UCP has continued to thrive and advance the potential, productivity and full citzenship of both children and adults with disabilties in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's Counties.

In 1999, UCP of Southern Maryland received national accredidation through CARF (The Rehabilitation Commission) in Supported Employment Services and Community Services: Residential Services for three years. This accreditation outcome represents the highest level of accreditation.
