About UCP
Founded in 1949, UCP of Metropolitan Detroit (UCP/Detroit) is one of over 100 affiliates of United Cerebral Palsy. UCP/Detroit is Southeast Michigan’s source for information, referral and service for individuals with disabilities, their families and friends. We work to advance the independence of all people with any physical, mental or emotional limitation that society calls a "disability" and to secure their right to self-determination and inclusion.
WHAT DOES UCP/DETROIT DO?
UCP/Detroit provides information and referral services, employment program (Benefits Planning, Assistance and Outreach Project), individual and family support services (Advocacy, Everyone Together and Parent Coaltion), community inclusion and independent living supports and community education.
More than 65% of the people served by UCP/Detroit have a disability other than cerebral palsy. These include spinal cord injuries, visual disabilities, learning disabilities and other disabilities that affect daily living.
UCP/Detroit is consistently recognized as one of the most efficient charitable organizations in the United States by several publications, including The Chronicle of Philanthropy. More than 85 cents of every dollar raised is used to provide programs and services for people with disabilities.
WHO SUPPORTS OUR PROGRAMS?
UCP/Detroit is one of over 110 local non-profit organizations that receives funds from United Way Community Services. Additional funds are raised through various fundraising activities, special events, bequests and memorials, and private donations.
HOW CAN I HELP?
You can contribute directly to UCP/Detroit, or participate in our fundraising events. Volunteers are always needed to assist us with various projects and special events that are conducted throughout each year.
