Support UCP
Each year, thousands of individuals with disabilities and their families contact UCP of Metropolitan Detroit for assistance in finding employment, living more independent lives, and to become included into regular public education with needed supports. In other words, UCP/Detroit does everything possible to build Life Without Limits for People with Disabilities and their families.
Our ability to continue our work has much to do with our ability to raise money, while keeping costs to a minimum. Although funding from the United Way and various government and private grants cover a great deal of our expenses, UCP/Detroit depends just as heavily on additional fund raising activities. This is how we can continue to provide so many outstanding services to so many in need. We need your help to achieve our goal.
Where the money is spent:
- Information and Referral Services.
- Individual Advocacy Services (with a heavy emphasis on Inclusive Education for all children with special needs.)
- Employment Opportunities for people with disabilities.
- Self-Advocacy and Empowerment training for parents, professionals and people with disabilities.
- Influencing public policy at the local, state and federal levels to assist people with disabilities and their families.
Your donation makes an impact! UCP/Detroit continues to be one of the nation’s most cost efficient health charities. Last year, 85% of its budget was spent directly assisting local people with disabilities and their families.
Please give strong consideration to a donation to UCP/Detroit. No gift is too small nor too large, and no donation will do more for people with disabilities in our community then one to UCP/Detroit. For over 50 years we have been turning obstacle after obstacle into opportunities, and with your generosity we can continue our mission well into the future.
Success stories:
Our commitment to our mission of Life Without Limits for People with Disabilities is best defined by the people who have benefited from UCP/Detroit services:
- Jim, a 47-year-old man with cerebral palsy, is one of these people. Jim’s dream was to find employment. He wanted the feeling of accomplishment that comes from having a job and doing it well. Through UCP/Detroit and the Choice Access project, Jim found a job as a mail courier. It’s a job he does well; one where other people respect him for who he is and what contributions he brings to the workplace. UCP/Detroit empowered Jim to make the choices that helped him to realize his dream.
- Nadia, a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy, is also a wheelchair user. Through UCP/Detroit’s Advocacy Program, Nadia made the transition from a self-contained classroom setting to a more inclusive educational program. She earns A’s in her classes and has the ability to meet the same challenges as her classmates while they learn together.
Jim and Nadia’s lives were improved through UCP/Detroit and the generosity of our donors.
Will you help us achieve more successful outcomes like these? Your gift can make a difference in the life of an individual with a disability. Your support will enable us to continue to provide employment opportunities, advocacy, information & referral services and self-advocacy and empowerment training for parents, professionals and individuals with disabilities.
Our sincerest thanks,
Board of Directors and Staff
UCP of Metropolitan Detroit
