History

UCP of Greater St. Louis was founded in 1953 by a group of concerned parents and volunteers who wanted to provide a higher quality of life for family members and friends with disabilities. The primary focus during these early stages of the organization was to provide family support and leisure services to children and adults with disabilities.

In 1963, we purchased the "Canterbury Center" in University City. With this new facility, UCP was able to expand services that today include: Adult Day and Early Childhood Programs, Employment and Residential Services, Respite and Emergency Residential Services, Social and Leisure Programs, and Therapies (Occupational, Physical and Speech).

Since its early beginnings, UCP of Greater St. Louis has been committed to maintaining exceedingly high standards as evidenced by its long-standing national accreditation by The Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF).
