The Faces of Medicaid

UCP and the American Association of People with Disabilities launch a joint campaign to protect deep cuts to Medicaid during the 2011 US budget negotiations, educating about the disastrous effects Medicaid cuts would have on Americans with disabilities and their families.

The campaign:

  • provides an outlet for people with disabilities and their families to tell the real stories of what the program means to living ever day life;
  • informs individuals nationwide though media outreach and coverage; social media updates;
  • ran targeted radio advertisements in Iowa and New Hampshire.

In addition, UCP launches a new section of its website – Faces of Medicaid – to keep readers abreast of the latest proposals that might impact the program while sharing real-life stories of everyday Americans showing the value of Medicaid for people with disabilities and their families.

America's Supercommittee

Three year old Tracy Swanner with her three sisters and mother.

UCP and AAPD introduce America's Supercommittee, a group of six engaged citizens from across the nation who lend their voices to the fight to justly reform Medicaid. While the US Congress Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction (the "Supercommittee"), deliberate and craft proposals concerning the federal budget, America's Supercommittee members shared perspectives and alternate proposals on ways to preserve and enhance Medicaid versus gutting this vital program.

Personal stories helped to educate the public, the media and Congress about the importance of Medicaid to people with disabilities and their families.
